ASIC demands access to metadata for crime-fighting

[1] The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) has called on the government to expand the data retention scheme to the corporate regulator.

[2] AIC argues in a submission to the parliament, the current status will compromise the integrity of the Australia’s financial markets, and people could lose their houses and life savings.

[3] Currently, the government’s data retention bill limits access to telecommunications data to “criminal-law-enforcement agencies”, but excludes ASIC.
