The fitness community is growing by the day in Australia, and there’s certainly no shortage of fitness startups out there. Many people who want to find work out buddies either try befriending others in gym classes or use Facebook fitness-focused groups to connect with people with the same interests and goals.
Fitmeet’s founder Danni Whittaker, herself a keen bodybuilder, saw the need to make the process easier through her own experiences. Fitmeet app basically works like other social meeting apps, but focusing on the fitness niche. The app allows a user to create a profile with details such as age, fitness levels, goals, and interests. They then search the profiles of others who are close by location and initiate messaging to connect and meet up, if interested.
The startup has an edge in the market as there are no particular apps doing what Fitmeet is setting out to do; Fitness Singles, a dating and friend finding site focused on fitness. Whittaker also has a number of ideas in mind as she prepares to launch. She is looking to create a community and provide users with services they actually want and need – a potential monetisation approach.
Fitmeet wants to take advantage of targeted special offers created through the analysis of user data and use of beacon technology. In such as case, a user could be walking down a street and, as they approach a Nutrition store, receive a notification saying they can get a discount on their regular protein powder.
Whittaker is currently in talks with several potential investors who are interested in the idea. Her grand vision for the Brisbane-based startup is to create the biggest social network focused on fitness in the world, given the big rise of fitness over the last few years. Fitmeet is set to launch worldwide in October.
