[1] A formal agreement has been reached by Australia’s treasurers to begin applying the GST to all sub-$1000 online purchases bought from overseas suppliers by mid-2017.
[2] The approach is set to end the $1000 threshold at which the GST currently kicks in for online purchases of overseas products, which will apply from July 2017.
[3] According to Joe Hockey, the benefit to this will be the delivery of competitive neutrality for Australian businesses, and a fair and equal treatment of all goods and services.
