Data breach penalties gain overwhelming support from Australian IT: survey

[1] A new survey from security firm, Websense, shows that Australian IT professionals are overwhelmingly supportive of penalties for company data breaches.

[2] The survey, carried out on 100 Australian security professionals, found that 98 per cent of respondents believed that the law should tackle serious data breaches that expose consumers’ data loss.

[3] Of those, 59 per cent advocate for fines as the appropriate way to enforce the law, while 65 call on the Implementation of the mandatory disclosure legislation in Australia.
