[1] Telcos wishing to compete with NBN Co on broadband services will now be required to pay a levy to help develop the broadband network in rural areas.
[2] The announcement was made by the Communication minister Malcolm Turnbull and it’s meant to ensure NBN Co wouldn’t be overly exposed to undercutting tactics in more profitable, high-density city areas.
[3] In the proposal, a portion of the NBN wholesale charge will be put as a subsidy amount, and then an equivalent amount will be levied on people who compete with NBN Co.
