Australian government to sell off Canberra’s secure fibre network

[1] The Australian government is considering the possibility of selling off Canberra’s secure public sector communications network in a bid to reduced costs.

[2] About 400 government and 80 agencies are connected by the Intra-Government Communications Network (ICON) that began operating in 1991.

[3] The sale will help cut the increasing government budget deficit which is expected to hit $40.4 billion in 2014-15.
