Australia, NZ agree to share electronic identity checks

[1] Australia and New Zealand have entered into an agreement to allow organisations to electronically verify ID documents issued by either federal government as well as Australian states and territories.

[2] Australia’s document verification service (DVS) has been in operation since 2007, and enables authorised government and non-government organisations to check the authenticity of documents against the government’s own records.

[3] New Zealand runs an equivalent solution called the confirmation service and the partnership would “protect New Zealanders settled in Australia and Australians in New Zealand from identity crime.
