Apple Pay to land in Australia this year

[1] Apple Pay mobile payments service is set to launch in Australia this year via a partnership with American Express.

[2] Apple’s CEO Tim Cook confirmed today that Australians and Canadians would be able to access the payments service before the end of this year, but only for American Express cardholders.

[3] The Apple Pay system consists of an embedded NFC chip, Apple’s TouchID fingerprint technology and its existing Passbook application.
