[1] NSW police and immigration authorities have been provided with access to the personal information of dozens of Opal card users suspected of criminal offences.
[2] Authorities are able to use registered Opal cards, which are linked with users’ names, addresses, email, phone contacts and bank accounts, to track users’ transport routes.
[3] Figures released by Transport for NSW indicate that there have been 15 requests from the Department of Immigration and 166 Law Enforcement from NSW Police, since December 2014.
